Monklands Sailing Club was founded in 1958 and has enjoyed a long history of excellence in the sport of sailing. Producing both World and Olympic Champions in the past and with current members also having great success in many of the away regattas which they attend.
For racing we have large and active fleet of Flying Fifteens. This is the clubs preferred “weapon of choice”, regularly seeing five or more boats doing battle on Tuesday evenings. The handicap fleet comprises mainly of GP14’s & Enterprises with sail training carried out in the clubs own Wanderer & Topper dinghies.
The primary aim of the club is to promote competitive racing and to support sailing at all levels. To that end we have a full racing calendar with two races on Sundays and an evening series on Tuesdays in the summer. There are also Cup Regattas through out the season and traveling events which the club regularly attends.
Monklands is an RYA affiliated Sailing Club offering sail training to RYA level 2. We hold two sessions of sail training each year. Members of the public are invited to our introductory Open Days at which you can apply for a place on one of our courses or contact us if you would like to pre book a course.
SEA CADETS: We are also happy to have a long association with our local sea cadets who provide other excellent water sport opportunities such as canoeing and rowing. For youngsters looking for an exciting challenge in life, click here for more info.
Meet The New 2008 Committee. If you need any help, advice or information, about the club, don’t hesitate to ask. You can email us or find us at the club and we will do our best to reply as soon as we can.
